I had a lovely stay at this hotel, which boasts a fantastic location that’s perfect for exploring the nearby lakes and attractions. The room I had was large and had a vintage charm to it, though it felt a bit outdated. Service was good overall, but I think a little more training for the younger staff would really elevate the experience. The dining options were enjoyable, but some prices felt a bit excessive. Overall, it was a good value for money, but some areas could use a little refresh.

Rooms
8.0
The room was massive and featured a beautiful Victorian style four-poster bed, which was extremely comfortable. However, it did feel a bit outdated compared to modern hotels.
Service
7.0
The staff were generally formal yet pleasant, and were brilliant throughout my stay. Although some of the younger waiters at breakfast could benefit from more training.
Location
9.0
The hotel is excellently located for walking and visiting nearby Ambleside and Windermere. It’s also right by the river and close to the steam railway and motor museum.
Dining
7.0
The dining was delicious and generally good, although the large supplements for some evening meal dishes felt pretty excessive for what was offered.
Facilities
7.0
The facilities were decent, and while I didn’t use the spa, I had a look around and was impressed by what I saw.

My stay at the hotel was quite a mix. The location by the river was stunning and the food was delicious, but the room left a lot to be desired, especially with its dated look and cleanliness issues. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, which really made a difference. Overall, while I enjoyed some aspects, the room's condition was a downside.

Rooms
5.0
The room was quite dated and not very well-maintained. I found a bloodstain on a heavy throw that I had removed, which was horrifying. On the plus side, it was well-equipped with toiletries and towels.
Service
9.0
The service was excellent; the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. They even provided us with a voucher and a bottle of champagne as a gesture of goodwill.
Location
8.0
The location was lovely, right next to the river and close to scenic spots. It felt a bit isolated if you wanted to go out for food elsewhere, which could be a drawback for some.
Dining
9.0
The food was delicious with a great choice. I particularly enjoyed the meal we had at the main restaurant, especially the peanut cheesecake.
Facilities
8.0
The facilities looked impressive, especially the spa area, but I didn't get a chance to use them. Everything seemed well-maintained.

The hotel has a lovely patio area where I enjoyed drinks and the beautiful weather, but the rooms felt a bit dated and dark. The service was exceptional and the dining experience was very pleasant, though the location is rather remote, making it difficult to find activities nearby. Overall, it offers good value for money if you don’t mind being away from town.

Rooms
6.0
The room was quite dark and the bed wasn't the most comfortable, plus it had a view of the entrance. However, the nice patio area made up for it a bit as we were able to sit outside and soak in the lovely weather.
Service
9.0
The service was particularly good; staff were friendly, efficient, and very helpful, especially when I had an issue with a lost bike disc lock. They really went out of their way to be caring and considerate.
Location
5.0
The location was quite remote, requiring a 45-minute ferry ride to reach the nearest town, Ulverston, which was a bit of a hassle. There were also limited food options nearby, especially with a teenager to feed.
Dining
7.0
Dining was a nice experience with a good selection for breakfast, although it felt a bit limited. Our meal was plentiful and tasty, especially the local cheese, and I appreciated the complimentary sorbet with dessert.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities were a bit dated and in need of refurbishment, but the bathroom had been refurbished to a high standard.

The hotel offered a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and a decent restaurant. While the rooms were clean and exceeded our expectations, they were a bit dated and smaller than I would have liked. The location was nice yet somewhat isolated, requiring a car for better accessibility. Overall, it was a pleasant stay but not ideal for those seeking vibrant nearby attractions.

The hotel offered a lovely stay with spacious and clean rooms that included a nice bathroom with a bath, which I really appreciated. The friendly staff made me feel right at home, and I enjoyed the convenient location near Lake Windermere. However, I found the dining experience to be a bit lacking in variety, and some of the supplement charges for meals felt steep. Overall, it was a nice place but could improve in a few areas.

I had a decent stay at the hotel, with clean and comfortable rooms and a lovely surrounding area. The service was friendly, but there were a few awkward moments when staff seemed distracted. The location required some travel to reach activities, which was a bit of a hassle. Overall, it's a good spot for relaxation, but there are some areas that could use improvement.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful location, especially if you have a river view room, which offers stunning views. The rooms were decent with standard amenities, but unfortunately, I was placed next to a busy road, which was quite noisy. The staff was attentive and offered a fair refund for a minor inconvenience, but there were noticeable issues due to a lack of training of some new employees. Overall, it had a relaxed atmosphere, but it could use some improvements in various areas.

Rooms
7.0
The rooms had all the usual refinements like tea and coffee, but the noise from the main road made it less than ideal.
Service

The staff was attentive and very helpful, making for a relaxed start to the day, although there were some training issues that affected efficiency.
Location
9.0
The location is amazing, especially being near Lake Windermere, which makes it convenient to access the boats up the lakes.
Dining

The dining options were not as impressive, with the buffet being mediocre at best and the lack of availability of food items.
Facilities

The leisure centre facilities were not available during my stay, which was disappointing.

I had a somewhat mixed experience at this hotel. The rooms were of a nice size and generally clean, but there were a few maintenance issues that detracted from the four-star feel. The service was friendly and professional, but the dining experience left a bit to be desired with long waits for food. The location is quite peaceful, although a bit secluded, requiring transport for exploring the surroundings.

Rooms
6.0
The room was nice-sized and generally clean, although there were cobwebs on the ceiling and a few maintenance issues like a blown bulb and a hairdryer that didn't fit properly.
Service
7.0
The staff were friendly, professional, and eventually provided a fan when I needed it. However, the breakfast service could use improvement as my poached eggs were harder than expected.
Location
6.0
The hotel is in a lovely and peaceful place, but it's quite isolated. If you're planning to explore the area, you'll definitely need transport.
Dining
5.0
Dining had a good choice of options, but the food was quite dry and the wait for service was longer than I expected. I think waiter service would have improved the experience.
Facilities
6.0
Although the facilities were not a primary focus of my stay, they seemed adequate but didn't stand out, especially considering the overall experience.

I had a decent stay at the hotel. The family room was spacious, which was a plus, but I noticed some cobwebs on the ceiling. While the bathroom was nicely refurbished, the overall decor felt quite dated. The dining experience was a bit slow, particularly for dinner, and the location seemed a bit too isolated for my liking. However, the breakfast the next morning was lovely, and the overall value for money was fair.

Rooms
6.0
The family room was a good size and generally clean, but there were cobwebs on the ceiling and a poor view from the window.
Service

The staff was very accommodating and polite, efficiently asking about allergies when dining, but I did have to ask for the dessert menu and bill a couple of times.
Location

Dining

I had a pleasant stay, enjoying the beautiful river views from my room, though it did get quite hot at times. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially with my child's unique drink request. However, the location was a bit of a hassle as it required a long ferry ride to find activities. Dining could be improved, as the service felt more like fast food than fine dining, despite having some great menu options.

Rooms
7.0
My room offered a nice view of the river, but it could get too hot at times. It was overall a comfortable space.
Service
9.0
The staff were generally very pleasant and welcoming, and a standout was the waiter who humorously handled my child's request for 'kangaroo juice.'
Location
